The music in this game is a masterpiece, I tried playing with my ear buds on and you can literally feel your heart pounding while performing incredibly intense missions, just like you are in it, being the real "SOAP", and the characters are really well portraited, when Captain Price died I cried for almost half an hour. The game shows how much fun you can get playing an FPS, everything seems so real, when you shoot someone they will react in the right way instead of just standing there and moaning( like CounterStrike.). The enemies are also very intelligent in terms of using their environment to best the S.A.S squads and play hide and seek.
This tends to make most servers a run and gun heaven. Not even the amazing US troups can come around a corner, jump 6 feet in the air, shoot down at their target, kill them, and land on their feet like a kitten. The fact that the PC game is free to play and doesn't involve a monthly fee is also important to me because I play with my two sons and 3 monthly memberships would be cost prohibitive.Bunnyhopping is still an issue that makes game play less than realistic.
I used to play Ghost Recon and Battlefield 2 so the upgrade in graphics is nice. The multiplayer is a blast. A great first person shooter with minimal bugs.COD4 has a fun single player story line with plenty of cool toys to play with.
I like how you can go to a modded server and the files download automatically as opposed to the manual install of the old days. I would have liked to see a co-op game included like the old Ghost Recon but I guess you can only pack so much fun into one game.Still my favorite game to this point. There are far less glitches than those older games.
The realism is quite good too.
Multilayer also allows you to customize and unlock weapons through experience and small challenges. Multilayer has loads of severs although most are just team deathmatch. Online community is alright nice people good severs. Overall a very strong title, rather short story mode but very in depth and pulse pounding. Game played like any other FPS point and shoot, good selection of weapons ans smooth mechanics.
The multiplayer is as tight and well designed as the single player campaign and will provide many hours of entertainment. Call of Duty 4 is a blast. Lots of fun. It keeps you interested with you being able to earn promotions, new weapons, abilities, and customizations. The weapons, the action, the fast paced cinematic quality of it grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the end credits. The single player campaign may be shorter than the average, but it is one hell of a fun ride.
But I understand, the game is waiting for me to complete the mission and in the service you don't really do anything you want. Open game play would be the next step where the character isn't confined. I loved the Grand Theft Auto III and subsequent releases but no war game ever was interesting enough for me to keep playing. I also loved Mafia PC game.
I have read bad stuff about World At War (the latest release) in the series so I might skip that one. I have long since imagined playing a great War game. But sometimes I really get the urge to jump in a jeep and take off, fly a helicopter, or change exactly what I am supposed to do. It can get your heart racing a little. The flying missions are fun, everything stays interesting. I am very hard to pleased when it comes to action games.
It is very realistic and intense. Over the years I have tried different ones including the 1942 series (which I never much enjoyed). But it is by far time they put out an action war game that keeps you interesting and is realistic and fun to play. I do like sports games though especially Madden. I get bored easily or if the game is too cartoonist or unrealistic, I will quit playing. I don't know how far I am through the game, I would estimate maybe half way. Sometimes I want to go out of bounds and do something the game isn't telling me to do, and that's when it stops being completely unrealistic. But all in all, this is the best war game ever made.
I also played the original call Of Duty many years back and at the time it was the first war game that I ever played all the way through. It can frustrate you and excite you at times. But the programmers of Modern Warfare (whom I understand didn't make World At war) I am sure are going to make another one of these games with even more advancements and improvements. But I still thought it was boring since it was mainly shoot everything that came in front of you. Ironically GTA and Madden are two of the best all time selling series (so I must not be alone). I like the way your team interacts with you like in real combat. Now I have to admit for an action game, Call Of Duty 4 is the first war game that is truly interesting to play. While it still does not have the wide open gameplay of the GTA series and the coming Mafia 2, it does have the realism and excitement of a great game.
